European Union
The European Union, the only truly supra-national organisation in the world, contains one of the largest diversities of people, cultures, economies, landscapes and environments reaching from Ivalo in Northern Finland to Limassol in Cyprus.
Brussels is the administrative centre of the EU and its 500 million people. Here the EU directives, recommendations and other legal papers are designed, written, discussed and decided. The European Parliament, Council of Ministers and the European Commission. Issues currently facing the EU cover its membership, structure, procedures and policies. They include the status and future of the constitutional treaty; enlargement to the south and east; problems of financial probity and democratic accountability; relative economic viability; revision of the rules of the Stability and Growth Pact; and the future budget and the Common Agricultural Policy.
