Climate Change and Art in Munich

After an eventful September 2011 ClimateSights is not yet over.

12.10.2011 |Amra Bobar

The project ClimateSights – organized by PLATFORM3 and WECF – culminated in a workshop on the topic of climate change. For the workshop, artists from different countries as well as scientists from different disciplines, were invited to discuss climate change and to work together to develop artistic responses.

These responses included photography by Diana Ukhina (Kyrgyzstan), an animation video by Lyaka Shaikezhanova (Kazakhstan), installation work by Jen Ele Emes Group (Kyrgyzstan), Emina Camdzic (Bosnia&Herzegovina) as well as Maka Batiashvili (Georgia), who also contributed paintings, a live performance by Meka Muratova (Jen Ele Emes Group) and a sculpture by Birgit Bellmann (Germany).

What follows is another artistic response:
Mobile Archive: „I don’t know what to do with climate change, so I wear a new dress and come here.“ (Meka Muratova, 2011) by Karin Bergdolt.

Adorned with a warning west, a performance artist makes interventions in the streets of Munich: she engages passers-by in conversations about climate change, she distributes bibliographical lists and postcards to spread and continue the dialogue. Her work is to spread the information and increase the dialogue on this timely topic.

Karin Bergdolt’s mobile archive looks back at the project, documenting and transforming it into her own artistic response. The mobile archive will be present at a number of different events taking place in Munich as part of the city-wide celebration Klimaherbst (05. – 21.10.2011).

Detailed information about locations, times and dates will be posted here shortly.
