More Solar Food Dryers in The Kyrgyz Villages Thanks to the Kind Support and Donations by Mr. Sjef Jorritsma and His Collegues at the Hanzehogeschool Groningen, The Netherlands
WECF and its local partner the Kyrgyz Alliance for Water and Sanitation (KAWS) are delighted to announce the receipt of a donation at the amount of 1200 EUR by Mr. Sjef Jorritsma and his colleagues.

The financial support of 1200 EUR will be readily put to use and it will make the building of more solar food dryers possible (each at the cost of 75 EUR). The additional funding will be allocated to the activities already taking place within the project Home Comforts in Kyrgyzstan. WECF and its local partners KAWS, ALGA and Camp Alatoo are working together with the aim to create local capacity for improved rural living standards through affordable and sustainable energy and sanitation solutions.

Some of the major core activities of the project are the building and installation of solar collectors (or solar water heaters) and solar food dryers. The former device will benefit the local Kyzgyz villagers with affordable hot water much needed for daily tasks such as washing the dishes, and also personal hygiene. Further, the solar food dryers are a cheap, fast and wonderful means for the production of clean dried fruits that can be consumed all year-round. Finally, in regards to sanitation, the urine diverting dry toilet (UDDT) or ecosan toilet is an innovative technology which can be implemented inside the house or attached to the house. The ecosan toilet does not need water for flushing, neither smells attracts flies.

When conducting their activities, WECF and its Kyrgyz partners, employ local staff and expertise with aim of ensuring the long-term sustainability of their initiatives.
The project “Home Comforts” within which these activities are implemented in Kyrgyzstan is funded by the European Commission and coordinated by WECF.
