Workshop on Water Safety Plans: Challenges and Opportunities in the Field of Water and Sanitation
On the 12th of April a workshop/training on “Water Safety Plans” took place in Kyiv at the premises of the Ministry of Regional Development, Construction and Housing of Ukraine.

The WHO representative Dr Enkhtsetseg Shinee introduced Water Safety Plans in the context of the Framework of the WHO Guidelines on Drinking Water Quality and its implementation. The step-by-step approach using the learning modules and the Water Safety Plan Quality Assurance Tool were presented. Both tools have been translated into russian and are available online.
Prof Dr Kenneth M Persson, of the Southern Sweden Water Supply "Sydvatten," shared his experiences on safe water management of the Swedish lakes, highlighting the importance of extended stakeholder involvement and protection measures.
Margriet Samwel, WECF water coordinator, presented specific experiences and challenges of the implementation of WSP in small scale water supply and sanitation services, and the WSP manual developing Water Safety Plans involving schools.
All the presentations are available in Russian at Workshop: Water safety Plans.
The next steps for the participants will be sharing the gained knowledge on WSP amongst other Ukrainian water suppliers and collecting feedback on the presented WSP tools.
