From 6 to 8 June 2012 a meeting will take place in Geneva, Switzerland, on the issue of public participation. For WECF this meeting is a continuation of its work on public participation and of the Workshop on Information and Public Participation in Water and Health Related Issues under the Protocol on Water and Health organised in June 2010 in Bucharest.

This year’s event is organised by the Task Force on Public Participation in Decision-making of the Aarhus Convention, the Meeting of the Parties to the Protocol on Water and Health in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment and Forests of Romania and WECF. This joint project of a UNECE Convention and a UNECE/WHO-Europe Protocol will generate synergies and make use of all relevant expertise.

The event will cover key issues of public participation in environmental decision-making focussing on water and health related matters. The meeting will serve as a platform for experts and stakeholders to exchange experiences, best practices and lessons learned on public participation.

For further information please contact:
Anke Stock (anke.stock@wecf.eu) and see the UNECE website.

Furthermore, the Task Force on Public Participation calls for case studies of public participation in environmental decision-making.

WECF and partners represent civil society in the UNECE Protocol on Water and Health process and advocate for an integrated and sustainable approach to water resource and river basin management.
