Women-led organizations and groups working on sustainable development in developing countries are invited to nominate their initiatives to be recognized as one of five winning projects at the UN Rio+20 summit in Brazil this June 2012

URGENT - DEADLINE MAY 17!

The Women’s Rio+20 Good Practice Award competition has been created in order to commemorate over 100 Heads of State and 25,000 participants gathering in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil for the Rio+20 United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development from 20th – 22nd of June 2012.

A total of five non-governmental initiatives carried out by women-led organizations and groups working in sustainable development in developing countries will be considered for this award.

The initiatives may be of any type but should focus on one of the following five categories: Food Sovereignty, Climate Adaptation, Decent Jobs and Health, Water and Sanitation, or Sustainable Energy.  Additional favor will be given for initiatives whose work involves the following interdisciplinary issues: Human Rights and Women’s Rights; Ensuring Corporate Responsibility, Accountability and Redress; Access to Information, Justice and Public Participation; and Improving Livelihoods, Women’s Economic and Political Empowerment.

To apply please read the application information below (available in English, French and Spanish), fill out the required forms for documentation, and submit by Thursday 17th of May 2012. The five winning initiatives will be announced on June 1st, 2012 after which a representative from each initiative will be invited to attend the Rio+20 summit.

On the occasion of the upcoming UNCSD Conference in Rio (RIO+20), five Women’s Rio+20 Good Practices will be awarded and invited to present their initiatives at the UN summit in Brazil.

The awards are sponsored by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and by the GIZ (German Agency for International Cooperation) and organised by WECF (Women in Europe for a Common Future - Women International for a Common Future) in cooperation with UNEP, the Network of Women Ministers and Leaders of the Environment and the Women's Major Group core members VAM, WEDO, ENERGIA, DAWN and Global Forest Coalition.

Among all concept entries, 5 concepts will be selected; the award winners will each receive 1,000 USD at a festive ceremony during the UN Rio+20 summit 20 – 22 June 2012, in Brazil. The travel expenses and accommodation of one of the five winners will be covered by the organisers.

Eligibility: All type of women-lead organisations or groups working on sustainable development in a developing country or country in transition can apply (for more details on eligibility, please see document attached).

In order to participate, please fill out the enclosed concept form and submit it to Karin Vohla or Naret Guerrero (Women in Europe for a Common Future - Women International for a Common Future) before 17th May 2012.
