European Union Supports Georgians in Theirs Hour of Need.

In Georgia many lifes were lost and property damaged after unexpected and violent storms. The European Union gives a helping hand to Georgians by providing over € 118,000 for basic needs products.

In July storms brought heavy rains, hail and floods causing severe damage in southern and eastern Georgia. More than 20,000 families lost everything including houses, cattle and harvest. The founds provided by the EU will be delivered by the Georgian Red Cross Society from the Federation’s Disaster Relief Emergency Found (DREF).

DREF was established to provide help to people affected by natural disasters. It consists of donors’ contributions, for instance the EU (€ 3 million). In case of urgency, after request by the humanitarian institution - Red Cross, founds are distributed in the areas of ‘small – scale’ disasters.
