Water and Sanitation are a Human Right! Online Signing is Open! Spread the News.

We need your help to reach out to all citizens in Europe. Our demands will only be taken into consideration if we achieve over one million valid signatures.

As of today we can start to collect signatures online. The delay resulted from the need   to meet detailed requirements set by the European Commission and Member States regarding security of the website and protection of the personal data that signatories have to provide. Now we can step up the campaign and let people know that they can sign online.

To recall our three demands: we are urging the European Commission to:
•    guarantee water and sanitation services for all inhabitants;
•    keep water services out of internal market rules; and
•    increase efforts to achieve global access to water and sanitation for all.

This is what we are asking all EU citizens to sign for. Non-EU citizens or organisations can help by sending us a statement of support and/or the logo of their organisation and by promoting this campaign in their networks.

We need your help to reach out to all citizens in Europe. Ask your friends, family and colleagues to sign and promote this campaign further. Our demands will only be taken into consideration if we achieve over one million valid signatures. On the signing page on our website www.right2water.eu you can see what personal details people have to provide. These are the requirements of each Member State and without these details signatures will not be valid.

The campaign took off in June with events in several countries. In Spain, Italy, Germany, Belgium, Finland, Sweden and Lithuania thousands of signatures have already been collected on paper.

In other countries people have been waiting for this moment to sign online. Sign this first European Citizens' Initiative now and demand implementation of the human right to water and sanitation. Promote this campaign in your network and use all media available: Facebook, twitter, e-mails, meetings, newsletters and magazines!

This campaign is a means of getting a commitment to the human right to water and sanitation. It is a tool to change the mind-set in the European Commission from a market-based approach with the focus on competition to a rights-based approach with the focus on public service. It aims to achieve universal (global) access to water and sanitation and to safeguard the limited public water resources for future generations.

Water and sanitation are a human right!
Water is a public good, not a commodity!
