France: the new champion for EDC regulation in Europe?
France bans BPA in food packaging
14.12.2012 |WECF
A very positive outcome for campaigners from Réseau Environnement Santé (RES) and WECF France, who have been pushing for a coherent legislation, covering uses of BPA in bottles and pacifiers, as well as all other food contact uses.
The law also bans the use of phtalate DEHP - a reprotoxic plastifier already banned in toys and childcare articles - in tubulures used in pediatrics, neonatology departments in hospitals and for use by pregnant women and nursing mothers.
But what about toys containing bisphenol A or endocrine disruptors of very high concern? They remain unregulated so far. A situation that WECF has been trying to change for years, and which may soon be reversed, since Delphine Batho, French Ministry of Environment announced on Monday, during an international conference on EDCs, she would support a European ban of EDCs of concern in toys and childcare articles.
WECF France who just performed a survey which shows that only 30% of toys manufacturers and retailers, among the 16 which have been asked, are willing to provide sufficient information on the presence or absence of BPA and other EDCS in toys, supports this position and invites you to sign on the petition to urge the Minister of Environment and Minister in charge of Consumer protection to demand more transparency on EDCs presence in toys:
