Improve the water network of the Armenian village of Sverdlov by donating one metre of piping for 3 euro 50

Help the villagers of Sverdlov to sustainable and durable access to drinking water

20.12.2012 |WECF

In 2008 the people of Sverdlov, in the Armenian Lore region did not have access to drinking water. Thanks to the Empowerment & Local Action Program of WECF and with the aid of the organisation World Vision, repairs started on the outer piping of the gravity water supply system.

As a result 80% of the villagers now have regular access to clean water now. To maintain the system and carry out small reparations, a water committee was set up collecting fees from water users.

It is evident that the project is a mayor improvement in the lives of people, but still a lot of work has to be done. The remaining old Soviet pipes need to be replaced, as they are deteriorating fast under the increased water pressure.

One meter of piping costs an average of 3.50 Euro. Please donate to support the villagers of Sverdlov to improve their water system. Donated money will be used solely for piping, the labour is carried out voluntary by the villagers.

WECF intern Yuliya Fruman visited Sverdlov a few times to assess the sustainability of the projectand even managed to attract independently a donor to replace one third of the inner piping system. Her report explores the difficulties and successes the community and the committee experience around water supply.
