Water is a human right – ECI says: No to privatization of water and sanitation!
In Europe, the access to water and sanitation is endangered.
05.01.2013 |
Pilot projects across the whole of Europe of privatised water and sanitation has delivered negative results, namely increasing costs and decreasing quality. Nevertheless, the European Commission is trying to push through a complete privatization of water and sanitation. Many people who are already in a financially precarious situation cannot afford the steep rise in prices which privatization brings along - They are facing the loss of their adequate access to water, despite it being a human right.
Because of this, WECF supports the European Citizens' Initiative who positions itself clearly against the privatization of water and sanitation within the EU. Water and Sanitation need to stay public goods, ensured by the state to be affordable for everyone.
WECF supports the European Citizens’ Initiative to stop privatization of water. But your help is also needed! Support the ECIs demands by signing the petition and assist in safeguarding a human right in Europe.
