On the first day of the training Anke Stock presented the concept of gender and various definitions on the issue as well as international legal commitments and some statistical data. Alga, one partner NGO from Kyrgyzstan, conducted exercises highlighting the need of gender sensitivity. In the afternoon Zulfia Kochorbaeva, the director of the NGO “Social Technologies Agengy (STA)”, presented the status of the development of gender policy in Kyrgyzstan, including a detailed gender action plan for 2012-2014.
The second day started with a presentation on the international experiences regarding the integrating of gender issues in sustainable development work and respectively in the policy and advocacy work. Afterwards the participants looked concretely into the activities they are planning under the EWA project and their potential gender links as well as the nexus to the national policy level. STA, an NGO with a strong background on advocating on gender issues in Kyrgyzstan, will coordinate regional and local activities of all EWA partners and focus on the national policy level. The policy aim, that was chosen by all partners of EWA, is the lobbying for the ratification of the Protocol on Water and Health by the Republic of Kyrgyzstan.
