Wikiwater – a wiki on how to gain access to clean drinking water for the poor

Wikiwater is a new website that explains simple techniques and practices in access to water and sanitation for the world’s poorest people

26.04.2013 |WECF

Founded by the French Secours Catholique and Fondation Caritas France, the website encourages capacity building by its documents targeted towards the poorest people.

The website itself is available both in French and English and is increasingly gaining popularity. Run entirely by volunteers, it offers 112 illustrated easy to grasp digital files on water access. Grouped into 5 topics it covers access to water, sanitation techniques, rate schemes and financing, health and hygiene education and governance and management methods for water services.

Waterwiki advices on the technical, financial, educational and management tools that are the least expensive and best adapted to facilitating access to water in both rural and urban areas, such as shanty-towns and slums. Thus, it encourages capacity-building by providing knowledge on how to access tools to kick-start improvements.

Since it is designed as a wiki, every user can propose changes or improvements to the website. Thus, it will be updated regularly and stay at the edge of recent developments on clean water and safe sanitation access in poverty-stricken areas.
