"First time in the history of climate change talk, we saw global solidarity for a universal cause and action initiated though out the world. To coincide with the Ban Ki Moon Summit and the People's Climate March in NYK, 2500 people marched across Delhi on September 20, making it one the biggest marches for climate the city has ever seen. It was the most vibrant, colourful march attended by people from all walks of life. Several rallies, events were held across India and the central message was loud and clear, 'it is high time the governments acted - enough time wasted on discussion'.
The walk in Delhi was attended by students, NGOs, activists, youth groups and people concerned about the environment. At the end of the march, different groups came forward and raised their concerns through songs, street plays, placards or case history. Issues ranged from privatization of rivers to deforestation and tribal community not have access to natural resources. This was definitely not the end but the beginning as felt by many at the walk. There was unanimous commitment to take this forward and stay connected.”
