WECF was proud to be amongst the few nominees for prestigious EUSEW Sustainable Energy Award. This year the Awards Secretariat received a vast collection of innovative projects – a total of 373 eligible entries – to compete in the 10th edition of the EUSEW Awards.
Nine projects – three in each of the three Award categories – were shortlisted. WECF’s project was shortlisted for the Renewable Energy category. The winners are selected by a high-level jury and their names announced on 16 June 2015, during an Awards Ceremony in Brussels.
WECF’s nominated project
WECF’s training sessions across Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova, Russia and Ukraine taught local people how to build and maintain solar collectors. Over 500 of these have since been constructed, 45 houses insulated and nine solar home-heating systems installed. As a result, families have saved an average of 157 euros a year on energy costs.
Winner of the Renewable Energy section for which WECF was nominated was Co-operative Energy from the UK with their campaign "More Power to the Consumer"
