WECF’s Alexandra Caterbow Participates in Upcoming EU Conference on EDCs
EU Commission informs stakeholders on impact assessment of EDC identification criteria

The European Commission DG for Health and Food Safety (DG Santé) organizes a conference on 1 June 2015. The aim of the conference is to inform Member States, Members of the European Parliament (MEPs), third countries representatives and stakeholders about the on-going impact assessment on criteria to identify EDCs as part of the implementation of the 2009 pesticides and 2012 biocides laws. DG Santé also intends for the conference to provide a platform for further exchanges of views. Alexandra Caterbow – WECF’s chemicals expert – will take part in the conference.
The day will include presentations on the science of identification, the impact on food and pesticides industry, on trade and agriculture, and on consumers, health and the environment. Of particular importance is that the EU Joint Research Centre (JRC) will present its methodology for estimating which chemicals would fall under the different identification options.
The conference takes places after three separate roundtables held by DG Santé – one with industry and civil society stakeholders (on 25 March), another one with Member State representatives (on 24 April), and a third with MEPs (on 12 May). For more information on the conference, click here.
WECF and its EDC-Free campaign partners actively gathered responses to the EU Commission’s public consultation on criteria to identify endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs). The consultation generated over 27,000 responses.
