WECF’s NAMA project presented during Climate Negotiations workshop on gender-responsive climate policy

The UNFCC workshop in Bonn on June 8 and 9 stressed the importance of mainstreaming gender in mitigation action and technology development and transfer

09.06.2015 |

On 8 and 9 June 2015, the UNFCC workshop on gender-responsive climate policy took place in Bonn, during the forty-second session of the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI 42). WECF’s gender-sensitive NAMA project in Georgia was presented by project partner RCDA during workshop session II on the importance of mainstreaming gender in mitigation action and technology development and transfer. RCDA: “Technology is not gender-neutral.”

RCDA project coordinator Nino Gamisonia: “In Georgia, women and children are most affected by indoor air pollution, because they spend the larger part of the day indoors and because they are the main ones preparing the heating with firewood.” Gamisonia explained how WECF’s project succesfully transferred the technology of solar water heating by involving both men and women. Watch the webcast here; Gamisonia’s ten-minute presentation starts at 1:54:50. Download the presentation slides here.
