MEP Michèle Rivasi expresses support for environmental activist Nadezhda Kutepova

WECF partner Kutepova risks prosecution by Russian authorities after whistleblowing on nuclear disaster in Ozerk

12.10.2015 |

Since the late 1940s, the Russian region of Ozerk has progressively turned into one of the most contaminated areas in the world due to radioactivity. Nadezhda Kutepova fights for recognition of this nuclear disaster. She now risks prosecution and therefore left Russia.

As head of the NGO Planète et espoir, Kutepova fought for the victims of this health scandal, for recognition and compensation. Her NGO won several cases in Russian court and at the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR).

Because of these political activities, Kutepova risks prosecution in Russia and is currently seeking asylum in France. French MEP Michèle Rivasi publicly expressed support for Kutepova. Read Rivasi’s statement here (in French).
