Leaving president Christine von Weizsäcker and new president Corinne Lepage

With an informal meeting in Paris, preceeding the COP21, WECF paid tribute to leaving president Christine von Weizsaecker and welcomed her predecessor Corinne Lepage.

Christine von Weizsäcker has been the president of WECF’s Board of Trustees since 2009, when she took over this position from WECF founder Marie Kranendonk.  Von Weizsäcker is a biologist, researcher and activist. She has been working on technology assessment for civil society since the mid-seventies and participated in the negotiations of the Convention on Biodiversity (CBD) and its Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety since 1994. Her many publications have contributed to the scientific and public debate.

Corinne Lepage – the former French minister of environmental affairs – has been advising WECF on strategic issues for a few years. Lepage and her employees regularly participate in WECF meetings to give their input.

Lepage recorded a video for a political conference organized by WECF, on the exposure of children to hormone disrupting chemicals. She was also one of the speakers during a WECF conference on hazardous chemicals in toys in Paris in 2012. Additionally, she assisted WECF in launching the campaign With Women. In February 2015, Corinne Lepage expressed her concerns with genetically modified crops, in a Dutch television programme called Zembla. For the past years, she has been active as a Member of the European Parliament (MEP).
