Accra, 20 November 2015 – Each year, the ONE Africa Award celebrates and highlights innovation and progress made by African led civil society organisations. There were 252 applications from 33 countries across Africa this year. ONE announced WECF’s partner organization SWAGEN as winner of the 2015 ONE Africa Award.

SWAGEN (Support for Women in Agriculture and Environment ) is credited with negotiating a national policy reform on forest conservation in Uganda that recognizes the rights of the forest dependent communities. As this year’s winner of the Award, SWAGEN will receive $100,000 to further the fantastic work they do in advocacy, natural resource management and the support of strong grassroots women’s groups.

Congratulations to our partner SWAGEN! WECF is very proud of the organisation and we join SWAGEN in celebrating their success. The Uganda-based organisation recently won another prize. Learn more here.
