Serbian journalists and consumer associations highly interested in chemical safety

Around 30 journalists met with representatives from the NGO ALHem, UNDP Serbia, Serbian public authorities and Ministries, science, and consumer organisations to discuss various topics of chemical safety in Serbia, in the frame of the SAICM project carried out by ALHem, UNDP Serbia and WECF.

The journalists were highly interested in topics such as endocrine disrupting chemicals and their negative impact on human health and the environment. ALHem presented a representative survey among Serbian citizens about their level of awareness regarding hazardous chemicals in products, safety instructions and labels. The results made clear that more awareness raising is urgently needed. The Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection presented relevant Serbian chemical legislation and the established helpdesk for industry and the public. After sharing some lessons learned about public awareness raising by WECF, a short version of the film „Submission“ was screened. A lively debate started afterwards about the right way to address consumers and to interest the media for the topic of chemical safety.

"Fight to Know" Campaign

25 representatives of consumer associations and retailers increased their knowledge during the campaign “Fight to know“ introduced at a workshop organised by NGO ALHem, WECF and UNDP Serbia.  International agreements, domestic legislation and the EU acquis in the area of product and chemical safety directives were presented and discussed.
