During Gender Day at the COP21 in Paris last december WECF organised a side event on nucleair energy, together with partners WISE International and as part of the Women and Gender constituency.
The Conference discussed the gendered effects of nucleair energy and radiation, such as the increased risk that radiation presents for women and children. The participants included women environmental ministers, civil society organisations, human rights lawyers, health professionals and scientists. Sascha Gabizon, executive director of WECF, was moderator. Several other speakers from different continents were also invited, among which Nadezda Kutepova, the Human Rights Lawyer defending Victims of the Mayak Nuclear Accident who recently had to flee her home country Russia.
