WECF's gender expert Anke Stock and WECF partners in Tajikistan contributed to this report for the Asian Development Bock, speaking about their impressions and experiences by working on gender equality and women's rights issues in the Central Asian country.
This country gender assessment re-examines the gender equality situation in Tajikistan, and identifies critical issues such as gender-based barriers to economic opportunities, social services, and to leadership and decision-making posts.

The resurgence of conservative patriarchal values in Tajikistan have led to the rise of early marriages and polygamy, compromising women’s and girls’ opportunities to realize their full potential to live quality lives, and have deterred women from fully participating in and benefitting from development. The report provides sector-specific gender analyses and identifies entry points for mainstreaming gender in agriculture and natural resources, education, energy, entrepreneurship and SME development, and transport. It also informs ADB’s gender strategy in the Tajikistan 2016–2020 Country Partnership Strategy.
