Our water and sanitation specialist Claudia Wendland was present at the 24th SuSanA meeting in Stockholm on 26 August 2017 and had a presentation on Water and Sanitation Safety Planning and the WSSP compendium which has been developed to reach especially small rural communities. The presentation was based on WECF's projects in Eastern Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia.

The Sustainable Sanitation Alliance (SuSanA) is an international network for sustainable sanitation having a holistic approach to sanitation. This is now also reflected in the SDG6 with especially its targets 6.2 on sanitation and 6.3 on wastewater management. During the meeting, a document on interlinkages and opportunities between sustainable sanitation and the SDGs was presented.

WECF is partnering with the SuSanA since its foundation 10 years ago in light of the UN International Year of Sanitation 2008. Since a few years, Claudia Wendland has been co-leading the Working Group 7 including Rural Communities, Gender and WASH in Schools.
