WECF participated in a meeting on Equitable Access to Water and Sanitation organised by UNECE

Bistra Mihaylova (WECF) took active part in the 4th meeting (13-14.09) of the Expert Group on Equitable Access to Water and Sanitation organised by UNECE  in Budapest, Hungary. 

The meeting was attended by 30 participants, country representatives from the pan-European region whose work is related to equitable access to water and sanitation as well as representatives from development partners, international organizations, civil society organization and stakeholders engaged in the provision of water and sanitation services. 

Stakeholders From Armenia, Azerbaijan, Hungary, Serbia, and FYR of Macedonia shared their experiences on applying the equitable Access Score-Card - process findings, lessons learned and next steps. Also experiences had been shared for developing and financing Equitable Access Action plans. 

Exchange of experiences related to self-assessments on the equity of access to water and sanitation in the regions, information, financial possibilities and lessons learned from all the processes had been carried out. 

The last part of the meeting was devoted to the country contributions for a publication on Equitable Access for MoP5 which will take place in November 2019. The publication will aim to consolidate in a short volume the lessons learnt and impact of the work carried out in the countries from the pan-European region under the Protocol on Water and Health in the area of equitable Access to Water and Sanitation since 2010. Such publication could inspire some more countries to the improve the equity of access to water and sanitation and could be considered as a contribution to targets 6.1. and 6.2 of the Sustainable Development Goals.
