EESC conference on 5 November: towards a new climate agreement in 2015

05.11.2014 | Brussels

The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) Sustainable Development Observatory is organising a public debate on the climate negotiations on November 5 in Brussels.

The debate will focus on the civil society messages for the global climate negotiations of the UNFCCC COP 20 and 21. The debate will take into account the negotiation process and the position of the EU. The conclusions of the debate support the preparation of the delegation of the EESC as well as support planned side events at the UNFCC COP 20 in Lima. Anke Stock, senior specialist Gender and Rights of WECF, will be speaking at the debate.

In December 2014 world leaders will meet at the COP 20 in Lima and prepare an initial text for a new global climate agreement. World leaders will adopt the new climate agreement  at the COP 21 in Paris in 2015. The role of civil societies is important in the negotiation process as they can contribute to the dialogue on the implications of climate mitigation and the adaption of policies for different sectors. They can also demand concrete policy commitments.

The public debate will take place at Room JDE 62, Rue Belliard 99, Brussels from 9:15 until 13:00.

The draft agenda can be found here.

Registration is possible till 31 October via this link.
