The impact of industrially contaminated sites on human populations, a global environmental health priority
Abstract
The objective of this event is to describe the importance of industrial contamination for environment and health and present progress and experiences in current collaborative initiatives. Among these the COST Action on Industrially Contaminated Sites (ICSs) and Health Network has been consolidating international cooperation to deal with the health challenges posed by ICSs, with the main purpose to develop a common framework for research, assessment and response (http://www.icshnet.eu). Also numerous experiences, including carried out by NGOs and young people, address related issues such as waste management and recycling and implications to environment and health.
The meeting will recap needs and priorities in member states and will present key cases of contamination affecting air, soil and water. Several priority areas of the Ostrava Conference will be of relevance in the event, highlighting the need to adopt inter-sectoral and multidisciplinary approaches in this domain, especially for contributing to the Sustainable Development Agenda.
