Women and Gender Constituency wants women’s voices included at UNFCCC

Women’s rights and gender justice should be core elements of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC)

| WICF Campaign

Countries: Worldwide
Issues: Climate & Energy; Gender & Rights
Duration: 09/2014 - 09/2016

Women’s rights and gender justice should be core elements of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). That is the view of the Women and Gender Constituency, which is doing its best to ensure this will become true.

Over the past several years of the international climate change negotiations it has been established and agreed by governments across the world, who are Parties to the UNFCCC, that gender equality and ensuring women’s human rights are necessary to effectively act on climate change mitigation and adaptation. The UN’s efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions will only succeed through the promotion of rights and justice and the full participation of women. We are working to ensure that women’s rights and gender justice are core elements of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. Representing women’s and environmental civil society organizations at the annual Conference of the Parties,

The Women and Gender Constituency is fighting to ensure women’s voices and their rights are embedded in process and results of the international framework for a sustainable and just future. As one of the nine formal constituencies to the UNFCCC, the Women and Gender Constituency is working hard to ensure that the voices of women and a gender perspective will be included in the process and results of the international framework that should secure a sustainable and just future.

According to the Women and Gender Constituency the full participation of women and the promotion of rights and justice is needed in order to ensure that the efforts of the UN to reduce greenhouse gas emissions will become a success.
