Imagine how much of a “stink” we would put up if our children were not able to attend school because there were no clean or safe toilets available for them to use during the day. Then put yourself in the situation of these female students because not only are the toilet facilities lacking, but these girls also have to cope without access to any toilets when they have their periods, so it is impossible to attend school during this time.

Natracare has responded to this problem by becoming a project sponsor of Women in Europe for a Common Future (WECF) improving sanitation in schools in the rural areas of Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia. Natracare and WECF, both committed to healthy lifestyles for girls and women without damaging the environment, have shaken hands on cooperation on the issue of safe sanitation in developing countries, especially with a focus on girls.

Having a period is not a big deal, but not for the girls in these countries where due to the astoundingly poor sanitary conditions of the toilets they are prevented from attending school missing out on their education as a result. With financial help from Natracare, WECF can build school toilets in the rural areas of Tajikistan thereby allowing girls to continue with their education which is important to the development of the region.

WECF has a long track record of similar successfully implemented projects in other countries that brought positive changes to the lives of many young girls and boys. The funds will also be used for hygiene and health training for children and health/rights training for girls.

Natracare will also continue with fundraising and raising awareness by carrying the WECF message on the packaging. In this way Natracare and WECF hope to be able to fund even more activities that can be carried out in other countries where WECF has partners (Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Georgia, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Moldova, Azerbaijan or Armenia).
