The Role of the Sisters. The Challenges of Sustainable Development for Women

'How can we reverse the fact that women are the most vulnerable?'

20.07.2012 | Sustainlabour

In Rio Sustainlabour wanted to also work especially for women workers. Among our activities was a seminar held at the People´s Summit, organized to address and advance on the links between environmental protection and social protection for women.

How can we reverse the fact that women are the most vulnerable? How can the environmental dimensions be included in the social protection floor? How can the paradigm be changed to recognize unpaid work and care work? Women from CUT, CSA, the World March of Women, Women of Europe for a Common Future attended this seminar and all contributed to this very necessary debate.

We also worked with other women's networks, such as WEDO among others, on aspects like how to make employment for women something achievable (and measurable), proposing indicators for the sustainable development goals and green jobs for women.

In addition, the Women's Major Group (WMG) which represents 200 women's organizations in civil society around the world, stated that they were very disappointed with the results of the Rio +20 Conference. We believe that world´s governments have failed both women and future generations. Click here to know more on their evaluation
