Gabizon expresses concern that UK’s wish to reduce the scope of the sustainable development agenda will threaten the commitments for women empowerment

The UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a set of 17 global goals that will shape the development agenda for the next 15 years. This draft set of SDGs is the result of 18 months of discussions by an Open Working Group (OWG) of 70 countries. It was formally presented to the UN General Assembly in September 2014. The British government stated it wants no more than 12 goals and it opposes the specific goal on inequality. WECF director Sascha Gabizon expresses her concern in the Guardian, worrying that reopening negotiations will threaten crucial commitments for gender equality.
