SOS! EU Climate Action lost at sea! - Join people sounding the alarm on climate inaction in front of the Berlaymont in Brussels

PHOTO AND INTERVIEW OPPORTUNITY – Wednesday 22 January

21.01.2014 | WECF

Join people sounding the alarm on climate inaction in front of the Berlaymont in Brussels

On Wednesday 22nd January the European Commission will release a White Paper outlining its proposal for 2030 EU climate and energy policy. Based on initial information, NGOs believe the weak proposal will do nothing to prevent dangerous climate change, despite calls for urgent action from businesses, governments and stakeholders.

Leading NGOs including CAN Europe, WWF, Oxfam, Friends of the Earth Europe, Greenpeace, APRODEV, Carbon Market Watch, EEB, HEAL and WECF, Women in Europe for a Common Future will stage a cry for HELP! from EU Heads of State and Government to put EU climate ambition back on track with what its citizens – and science – are calling for.

•    WHAT? Photo, interview and video opportunity
Campaigners lying on the ground spelling out SOS while other volunteers, wearing life vests and blowing whistles, will be holding signs that spell out “CLIMATE SOS” around a life raft, all in front of the European Commission sign. Other people inside the life raft will be holding signs for help in various languages – English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Polish, Italian and Greek. There will also be interview opportunities with spokespeople from all the organisations.

•    WHERE? By the main entrance of the European Commission’s Berlaymont building, near Rond Point Schuman in Brussels.

•    WHEN? This Wednesday 22nd January at 11:30 AM.
