IWE: New Publication on Gender Aspects in Water and Sanitation Issues in Kyrgyzstan (September 2014)

29.11.2014

Under WECF’s project “International Women’s Empowerment” (deepening the EWA project) the Kyrgyz partner Social Technologies Agency (STA) developed an assessment and concept on gender aspects of access to clean drinking water and sanitation. With the adoption of targets under the UNECE Protocol on Water and Health many avenues for reformulating policies and legislation are open at the moment.

The assessment focuses on gender issues related to the access of safe drinking water and sanitation, the issue of morbidity related to access questions and the situation of access to water and sanitation within childcare facilities. A group of expert developed the assessment, supported by Nina Vashneva, the Chief Specialist of the Department of State Sanitary and Epidemiological Surveillance of the Kyrgyz Ministry of Health who passed away in autumn. She was an inspiring and warm personality with a great commitment for the issue. Her death is a big loss for the water and sanitation community beyond the borders of Kyrgyzstan.

The Publication can be found here.
