Improving Water and Sanitation through Decentralized Cooperation in the Republic of Kyrgyzstan

A feasibility study carried out in the frame of the UNDP Global Water Solidarity Platform

The presented feasibility study was conducted by WECF as a member of the UNDP Global Water Solidarity platform (GWS), in cooperation with the Kyrgyz partner organizations KAWS and BIOM and with assistance of national experts in the water and sanitation sector.
 
The study addresses decision makers in the country and donors and aims at analyzing the general situation and identifying the inequalities in the water and sanitation sector. Moreover, it proposes concrete solutions and possible small-scale projects: it analyzes the opportunities to implement solidarity mechanism, in order to improve water and sanitation services in the country and extend their accessibility. The study comes in line with the targets for improving water and sanitation in Kyrgyzstan set in the National Policy Dialogue on Integrated Water Resources Management and in view of ratifying the Protocol on Water and Health, complements with recommendations and can support the leverage of reaching the targets.
