WECF speaks at Bayer shareholder meeting on REACH and the role of Bayer

Three questions asked on why Bayer opposes REACH

03.05.2005 |Daniela Rosche

WECF's policy coordinator, Daniela Rosche, spoke on Friday 29th of April to the Bayer annual shareholders meeting. She asked the Bayer directors and shareholders 3 questions:

1. How can we buy healthy products for our children when there is no information available to consumers on toxic chemicals in daily-use products?

2. On Bayer's website we read that you want a 'new Bayer'. However, through your lobby association in Brussels you have been opposing the proposed EU chemicals legislation REACH. Is the health of  your children, employees and next generations really of no importance?

3. We know from experience that we should be better safe than sorry, that preventive action is economically right. Why do you oppose so strongly the eco-efficient innovative strategy of 'substitution' for the new EU REACH directive?

Her questions were answered very extensively - although not satisfactory - by Bayer.
