National Co-ordination Team established in Kazakhstan

Information on the preparatory process on ratification of the PRTR Protocol in Kazakhstan (Pollutant Release and Transfer Registers)

In Kazakhstan the National Coordination Team on the preparatory process on ratification of the PRTR Protocol was established (Minister for Environmental Protection Aitkul Samakova issued an edict N 312-p, November 15, 2005).

Representatives of the key government agencies and ministries, OSCE Center in Almaty, NGOS take part in the National Coordination Team.

To establish the National Coordination Team  on the preparatory process on ratification of the PRTR Protocol is one of the recommendations of the workshop on the PRTR Protocol (September 3-4, 2005; Borovoye village, Kazakhstan; meeting was held the OSCE Centre in Almaty in close cooperation with the Ministry of Environment of Kazakhstan).

It is expected that the group will perform the following tasks:
  • Preparation of a report to the Government on necessary institutional framework and statistical reporting requirements to ratify the PRTR Protocol;
  • Preparation of a project proposal on establisment of a national PRTR;
  • Incorporataion of PRTR requirements into the draft Environmental Code etc.
