On the 11th of May 2006, “The German Environmental Management Association” (B.A.U.M.) awarded the famous B.A.U.M. environmental prize for the 13th time in Munich. Nine laureates, among them people such as Dr. Claus Hipp and Mareke Wieben from IKEA Germany were awarded this prize. The network UNSER LAND was honoured in the category “Institution” for it´s outstanding work.

The Bavarian Environment Minister Werner Schnappauf and the State Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology Dagmar Wöhrl presented the award in front 300 guests. The prize is given to personalities, who stand out in the areas of nature conservation and environmental protection as well as social issues. The award presentation on stage showed clearly what the network UNSER LAND is all about: the chairpersons of all nine solidarity communities representing the numerous network members received the award together.

„We too, are really impressed about what we can do together to preserve the quality of life for people, animals and plants in our region“, declares Elsbeth Seiltz, chairwomen of the umbrella association UNSER LAND. „It is the diverse skills of our high motivated people, the pleasure in cooperation and the common idea, which make our work successful.“

For Sabine Brückmann, chairwoman of the solidarity community EBERSBERGER LAND and WECF Coordinator for Sustainable Rural Development, the award of a regional initiative, together with well known „Global Players“ like Siemens or Ikea shows above all, that the common work over almost 10 years, now bears fruit and that we all have the ability to affect change in our regions.

That is why the award is not only limited to the chairwoman, but for all the numerous participants of the network. Together they are very proud of this honourable appreciation of their work. The B.A.U.M. environment award motivates and encourages them to preserve and spread regional economic cycles now and in the future.
