WECF can continue the health and hygiene programme in the Roma settlement Prislop, started in February 2006 with financial support by Hewlett Packard (HP). To push the activities WECF staff met the mayors of  the villages Rasinari and Prislop on 24th and 26th of October 2006 in the town hall of Rasinari to discuss the programme. The mayor agreed to cooperate with the project team, improving the living conditions of people in Prislop and offered immediate help.

The local government of Rasinari promised to support the project with materials to improve the paths in the village with stones, ditches and pipes.

Planning the pavement of the paths in Prislop

The local government of Rasinari will pay the stones and drainage pipes and the social workers, who help to built the roads. WECF will pay the transport of the stones.
The constructions will start on 31th of October and will be done by workers from Rasinari and men from Prislop. At the moment the roads in Prislop are of clay, which makes them  very slippery during humid or rainy weather. Using the roads makes people dirty. A better road helps to make houses cleaner and more hygienic.

Beside the improvement of the streets WECF can continue the two education programs – hygiene for children and mothers, and mathematics, writing and reading for teenagers and adults - in new rooms.

Meeting in the cultural center in Prislop

WECF got the permission of the mayor of Rasinari to use one room in the public cultural center of Prislop twice a week. The programme on clean-hands, hygiene and health for children and mothers will enlarge the number of families with hand washing facilities and understanding of the importance of hygiene in the village.

Also the schooling programme for mathematics, writing and reading can now take place in these rooms. In the early ninety the school in Prislop was closed during 5 year. There is a rather big group of teenagers and adults in the settlement who are analphabetic. The schooling programme offers a second chance to learn mathematics, writing and reading. Both courses are hold by the project partner Anca Florina Brehaita-Dancanet.

One other activity during this project visit was the production of a documentary filme The German ZDF television team joined us for filming the living conditions of a Roma family and the project activities in Prislop, and will be broadcasted in a ZDF program.
