Sewerage explodes!

An explosion broke out in the sewerage system of Yerevan CJSC Nairit. Armenian Rescue Service (ARS) reports the explosion took place at 7:07pm on September 23 in the underground collector pipeline and several wells in the territory of the plant not far from Noragavit-Ayntap road.

As a result, the territory of the nearby State Traffic Inspection post has cracked damaging several cars. Special rescue and chemical protection groups arrived on the spot headed by Vice Chairman of the ARS Vrezh Gabrielyan. Minister of Territorial Administration Hovik Abrahamyan, Nature Protection Minister Vardan Ayvazyan, Healthcare Minister Norayr Davidyan, Yerevan Mayor Yervand Zakharyan, representatives of hygienic and anti-epidemic inspection, accidence services of the CJSC "Yerevan-gas" and "Yerevan-water" arrived in the place of the accident as well.

Approximately at 7:30pm, preliminary data of the explosion were received. Thus, the collector burst, which, however, was not followed by a fire. Specialists took necessary air, water and soil samples to determine the substance. A certain Gagik Malkhasyan, Noragavit resident (1976) was hospitalized with injuries.

The expertise showed that the explosion took place in the 12.2 km collector embracing Noragavit district (Shangavit community, Yerevan) and the village of Ayntap (Ararat region). The blast-wave destroyed 9 wells in Noragavit and 13 in Ayntap. As well as the 3rd water main in Noragavit. Part of Yerevan residents has no water supply. The explosion also damaged part of Yerevan-Masis road near the complex "Continental." Six cars were damaged. A criminal case has been initiated on the facts.
