ASTRA Stresses Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights during CSW 59

Network organization ASTRA expresses discontent with procedure of CSW 59 and with UN’s Political Declaration

17.03.2015 |

On the occasion of the 59th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW), the ASTRA Network addresses the UN Permanent Missions of Eastern Europe, the Balkans and Caucasus. On behalf of its member organizations, ASTRA expresses “vast disappointment with the unexpected change of the usual procedure of CSW working method of 2-week negotiations and the content of the Political Declaration adopted at the first day of the Commission, Monday, March 9th”.

ASTRA would like to bring the attention to (1) the unsolved and persisting issues of unsafe and illegal abortions in countries of Central and Eastern Europe, and (2) the lack of comprehensive sexuality education and rising threats to women’s human rights, especially reproductive rights.

ASTRA is a regional network of NGOs and individuals advocating in a collective voice for sexual and reproductive health and rights in Central and Eastern Europe. For fifteen years, it has been monitoring the implementation of international agreements and commitments regarding women’s human rights.
