Approval of text on EU’s Aarhus regulation

More environmental transparency, but no effective access to justice.

27.07.2006 |Anke Stock

In the first week of July 2006, members of the European Parliament approved a conciliation agreement of the text to the EU’s Aarhus regulation.

The Aarhus Convention is a legally binding instrument guaranteeing access to information, public participation in decision-making and justice in environmental matters. The new EU regulation will apply parts of these rules to the institutions and bodies of the European Union.

WECF welcomes that the regulation will improve access to environmental information and public participation. However, WECF shares the concerns of EEB about the failure to guarantee effective access to justice at EU level.
