Germany is on its way to ratify Aarhus Convention

On 12 July 2006, the German cabinet agreed upon three bills to ratify the Aarhus Convention. The bills are the following: Entwurf für das Öffentlichkeitsbeteiligungsgesetz, Entwurf für das Umwelt-Rechtsbehelfsgesetz und Entwurf für das Aarhus-Vertragsgesetz.    

These bills have to be approved by the Bundestag und Bundesrat before the Aarhus Convention can be formally ratified. The process is likely to be finished before the German EU presidency starts in January 2007.
