Dutch Report: gigatonne CO2-reduction gap

Today (1.6.2010) the Dutch Environmental Assessment Agency (PBL) released a report carried out by Ecofys evaluating the pledges of the Copenhagen Accord. They conclude that the Copenhagen pledges will achieve only 60-70% of the emission reductions needed to keep global temperatures below the 2 degrees limit.

The reports argues the need to move from 18 to 25% CO-2 reductions. The report is in English and can be found at: www..rivm.nl/bibliotheek/rapporten/500114018.pdf        

The report also includes recommendations to close the gap, including for China and India to carry out their current nationals plans (which go beyond what they have pledged), aviation and bunker restrictions, less offsets for industrialised countries and halving of deforestion in developing countries.
