16th meeting of the Working Group of the Parties to the Aarhus Convention in Geneva, 19-21 June 2013
Progress in implementing the current work programme will be reviewed. The Working Group will also be discussing items in preparation for the fifth ordinary session of the Meeting of the Parties

Main points discussed will be the evaluation of the current functioning and implementation of the Aarhus Convention and the assessment of the current interim scheme of contributions. Also, a future strategic plan (2015-2020) and a corresponding future work programme (2015-2017) will be worked on. Furthermore, elements of possible financial arrangements will be debated. The provisional, annotated agenda can be found here. New documents will be made available online on the Working Groups meeting website; checking it regularly is advised.
The registration form for the meeting can be downloaded here. Participants have to send the completed registration form via e-mail to public.participation@unece.org, before 4. June 2013. However RVSP is expected as soon as possible, also due to waiting times for visas. Since the meeting will take place in Geneva, a guide on how to apply for financial support and the application form can also be found here. The request has to be sent to public.participation@unece.org before 7. May 2013.
WECF contributes to the Aarhus convention and working group meetings as part of its campaigning on international and UN level. WECF experts are a member of the Task Force on Public Participation in Decision-Making and contribute to ‚public participation in international forums‘ under the Aarhus Convention.
The Aarhus convention is a foremost environmental convention. The subject of the Convention goes to the heart of the relationship between people and governments. The Convention is not only an environmental agreement, it is also a Convention about government accountability, transparency and responsiveness. The Aarhus Convention is also forging a new process for public participation in the negotiation and implementation of international agreements. More information on it can be found here.
