The nuclear option: a worrying choice and opposed to future energy
More than a year after the Fukushima disaster, nuclear industry remains a matter of debate. Despite the evidence, some countries, including France, always seem to see the nuclear "an industry of the future".

More than a year after the Fukushima disaster, nuclear industry remains a matter of debate. Despite the evidence, some countries, including France, always seem to see the nuclear “an industry of the future”. However, in many countries people mobilize against nuclear energy. In Japan the population even demanded a permanent exit from nuclear energy. Despite this mobilization the Japanese government initiated the restart of two nuclear reactors again.
Besides the risk of a nuclear disaster, as pointed out in a recent report of the Special Rapporteur of the United Nations, mining activities and waste pose a serious threat to the environment and the health of people, especially children. Children are vulnerable for pollution from mining activities, such as emissions of mercury.
It is possible to choose safer and less expensive energy. The economic argument that nuclear power is energy at lower cost is not correct. In France, the Court of Auditors, in a report of last April (5) has showed an increase in costs of nuclear energy. Hence, it has become essential for France to engage in another way, that of energy efficiency and renewable energy, the only coherent way is the economic and health way.
